Do I need a Health Check-Up Program?

International experts recommend a health check-up every three years for individuals under age 40, every two years between 40 and 50 years old, and annually after age 50.

Regular Health checkups identify potential risk factors and medical problems early and prevent potentially serious illnesses. A Medical check-up also manages your health risk profile and helps direct a healthier lifestyle.

Help Prevent possible diseases

  1. Breast Cancer : Annual breast examinations are recommended for women after the age of 40. A strong family health history of cancer warrants earlier and more regular testing.

  2. Coronary Artery Disease : Exercise stress testing (treadmill) is useful to look at the heart under exertion. Recommended for men and women over age 40 and symptomatic people with coronary risk factors. These factor include smoking, high cholesterol, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, family history of heart attacks.

  3. Ovarian Cancer : Ultrasound scan of the abdomen is useful for screening for ovarian cancer. Recommended for women over 40 years old.

  (Recommended for aged < 35 years) 

Physical examination and consultation

Complete physical examination with a physician to detect visually other abnormalities not revealed by blood tests. To analyze and summarize test results, give treatments and advices on how to continue on living a healthy life.

CBC

Testing for Complete Blood Count to look for abnormalities of abnormal shape of red blood cells, abnormal levels of white blood cells found in allergy or certain types of cancer of the blood.

Fasting Blood Sugar

To screen for increase levels of sugar in the blood indicating diabetes.

Cr (Creatinine)

A blood test that will reflect how the kidney is functioning. An abnormally high level of creatinine warns of possible malfunction or failure of the kidneys.

SGPT

The test is done to look for and evaluate damage to the liver (from alcohol or other liver diseases.). It is also measured to check medical treatments that may lead to liver inflammation.

Lipid profile (Chol,TG,HDL,LDL)

Cholesterol; Triglycerides; High density lipoprotein(good cholesterol); Low density lipoprotein(bad cholesterol)

To measure the amount of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood.

To measure HDL= levels of good cholesterol in the blood, indicating a low risk for any cardiovascular diseases.

To measure LDL= levels of bad cholesterol in the blood. An increased level indicates that one is a high risk for heart attacks or stroke.

Uric Acid

High levels of Uric Acid in the blood can be deposited in the joints, causing gout or painful joints.

Urine Exam

Urine examination can reveal the following:

  1. presence of urine sugar -  the first symptom of diabetes
  2. presence of urine protein – indicates kidney disease
  3. presence of WBC (white blood cell) – indicates infection in the urinary tract
  4. presence of RBC (red blood cell) – may indicate stones

Chest X-ray

To check for pulmonary tuberculosis, pneumonia and other lung diseases, or cancer. It also shows whether the heart is abnormal in shape or not.

EKG (Electrocardiogram)

To assess electrical activity of heart e.g. rate, rhythm and  any other abnormalities in the conduction system.

Dental Check-up (excluding

X-ray)

To check for tooth caries, gum diseases, abnormal deposits (tartar), and detect other abnormalities.

Breakfast
