Arm lift (Brachioplasty)What is brachioplasty? An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure to remove loose skin and excess fat deposits in the upper arm. With age, upper arm skin can become loose and flabby. Plastic surgeons will discuss brachioplasty with patients who want to tighten this skin and look as good as they feel. In some cases your plastic surgeon may suggest that liposuction be used alone or in conjunction with an arm lift to remove excess fat in the upper arms. Who is a candidate? Patients after massive weight loss who have hanging, redundant skin are candidates. The procedure is also used on individuals with arms which are disproportionate to the rest of their body How is brachioplasty done? In the standard technique, an incision is made along the underarm and down the arm, from the underarm to the elbow. The scar looks like a “T.” Skin and fat are removed. A drain might be placed under the skin, which would be removed about a week after surgery. Does brachioplasty include liposuction? Brachioplasty does not include liposuction, but may be combined with liposuction. This will need to be discussed with your surgeon. What is recovery like after surgery? You may be able to use your hands, but cannot perform strenuous activity with your arms for at least 1 month. You may have compressive dressings around the arm for several weeks. There may be temporary swelling or numbness along the incisions or in the hands. You should plan for 3 to 4 weeks off work, or a little longer if your job includes lifting. What are the most common benefits of this surgery? A more youthful appearance and thinner contour to the arms. Reduction of flabbiness, extra skin and fat, especially in the upper inner arms. Improved appearance in related folds of skin and fat on the upper chest near the armpit, which are particularly apparent when the arms are down at the sides. Long-lasting results. What will happen at the initial consultation? During the initial consultation, you and your surgeon will discuss the changes you want to make in your appearance. He/she will explain the different options available to you, the procedure itself, and its risks and limitations. He/she will also explain the kind of anaesthesia required, the surgical facility, and costs. Your surgeon will begin with a complete medical history. He/she may also give you specific instructions preparing for surgery, including guidelines for eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding vitamins, supplements and medications. Routine laboratory tests may be required before surgery. The Cost Brachioplasty (Arm Lift Surgery) 100,000 Baht/ 3,300US$/* *Price based on the Thai Baht currency.
